The Municipal Livelihood Development Office spearheaded the 2nd Batch Distribution of Motor Cab Side Car to 15 beneficiaries last February 11, 2021 which has been held at the Can-avid Municipal Hall.
The Municipality of Can-avid has more than three hundred motorcabs and pedicabs that are operating as a public transport within the poblacion and carline barangays. The said occupation is so common among heads of the family because it is easy to drive and low-cost to provide. And since the nature of the business has to do with mobility of the public, the LGU Can-avid assesses the quality of service they can provide by monitoring the physicality of the motorcabs and pedicabs and the sanitation and hygiene of its driver.
Unfortunately, workers from this sector are badly affected by the pandemic. With their eagerness to survive and make a living, sometimes the drivers will just repair the motorcabs and pedicabs using scrap, wooden materials and anything available which can cause inconvenience to the passenger and create unpleasant look of the cab. Hence, the Sangguniang Bayan made an ordinance prohibiting repair of motorcabs and pedicabs using scrap and wooden materials only. Operators and drivers have been informed to comply. And to strengthen the said ordinance, the LGU thru the Municipal Livelihood Development Office come up with a program by which the affected operators and drivers of motorcabs and pedicabs who are financially challenged will be offered with loan grants amounting to ₱ 4,000.00. The said amount will be utilized for the improvement of their sidecar which will be paid back to LGU by installment process. In addition, the sidecars will be painted uniformly to show that it is through the grant given by LGU and to be appealing to the locals and visitors.
